Melton's App & Tap: A Decatur Dining Gem for All

Neighborhood institution. Growing up in that neighborhood, going to Melton's on a Friday night after a week of school, sports, and parents working was what you did. They have a lot of options, and everything there is delicious. My personal favorites are the black bean chicken and chili cheese nachos with waffle fries in place of chips (yes, you can substitute waffle fries for chips in nachos!). Their sandwiches are also great (Reuben, French dip, and brisket ) as well as their pastas. specials are often also pretty tasty. Basically whatever you fancy, they've got something you'll enjoy. Servers are always polite and very professional in what they do. Great drink selection too. Atmosphere is a local neighborhood bargrill. Not many frills, usually meh acoustics, but it's pretty homey.

Great experience at Melton's today. The food was very fresh and delicious. Matt was such a great waiter. We were a large group and he did an excellent job serving us! We will be back for sure!

One of my favs. We used to live less than 3 miles and now that we moved out to the country, every trip that brings us close is a good reason to stop in. Never had a bad meal. Just recently had the roast beef dip. Mom good!

I’ve been to Meltons for decades!! Delicious food, great servers and atmosphere! You can get together with friends and catch football games or any other sports! Love it!! Definitely check it out if you are in the area!

I’ve been coming to Melton’s App & Tap in Decatur since I was 7 years old — back in 1997, when cartoon intros slapped and gas was a buck a gallon. My grandma used to bring me here, and if you knew her, you’d know she did not play about good food. If she liked a place, you shut up and ordered. Decades later, and this spot hasn’t changed — and that’s the best part. The vibe is still laid-back, the food is still fire, and the menu is still serving up that “made with love” energy. It’s like the kitchen got frozen in time... but in a good way, like one of those sci-fi movies where they preserve the best parts of humanity. I’ve basically tried the whole menu — wings, burgers, sandwiches, apps, and whatever that magic sauce is that comes with the fries — and it all hits. No fluff, no pretense, just real food that tastes like it’s been seasoned with experience and soul. Melton’s is the kind of place where the regulars nod at each other, the staff knows your order if you’ve been there more than twice, and the beer stays cold. It’s not trying to be “hip” — it is what hip places wish they were before they got lost in truffle oil and ironic playlists. If you want good food, a neighborhood feel, and a side of nostalgia with your ranch dressing — Melton’s is that spot. Grandma said so, and I’m just here to confirm it.

My guest and I arrived right at 8:00pm. The restaurant seemed to be about 30% occupied. We were seated immediately, we chose the inside rather than the outdoor patio. In less than two minutes our server Nicole came to the table. We ordered beverages. The beverages arrived quickly. We were not ready to order. Nicole gave us a few more minutes. I ordered the pasta Florentine, my guest ordered the corned beef Reuben. Our meals were delivered within ten minutes. While Nicole was very attentive before our meals arrived, she did not revisit to ensure the meals were as expected. The good news, our meals were both great.

I met a friend here for a late lunch and we had a great time! The bartender was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive without being overbearing. Our food came out quickly and all the staff we interacted with were great! I'll definitely come back again!
